2010 Dear All, This year’s 2010 Marty McHugh Award will go to Brenna Hannan from the Murphy Irish Arts School in Beachwood, Ohio. Brenna Hannan has been living her dream of Irish dancing for the past thirteen years and we are hoping with your help, she can continue. Just before the 2009 Oireachtas, Brenna collapsed at her college in Michigan and was unconscious upon the arrival of the paramedics. Doctors diagnosed her with a brain bleed caused by a tangle of veins at the base of her brain (AVM). Emergency surgery was performed where a tennis ball-sized clot was removed and the AVM was clamped. Brenna has remained in a coma ever since the surgery. Brenna’s parents have been going through a huge financial burden to spend as much time as possible with Brenna. Since Brenna remains in fragile condition she cannot be transferred to a Cleveland hospital, which would be closer to her home. Her parents drive from Ohio to Michigan several times a week, which often causes Brenna’s self employed father to miss a lot of work. Their income has become sporadic due to time spent at the hospital and being away from home. Although the Marty McHugh Award is a small monetary gift, I personally am asking all dancers attending the Feis to make a contribution to add to this award. Any amount will help and be greatly appreciated by the Hannan family. Your donations will be added to the Marty McHugh Award to help Brenna and her family during this difficult time. If you are unable to help financially at this time, please keep Brenna and her family in your daily prayers. All the volunteers at the West Virginia Feis have joined the Murphy Irish Arts School in praying daily for Brenna to wake from her coma.
